What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
By default, we do not allow comments to be posted on the website and therefore we do not hold any data.
In the event of the comments being enabled for a specific article, we will only hold the comments you make for the life of the article on the website. Any information you choose to share you agree to being displayed in the comments box, which is visible on the website post. This includes your name, comments but not your email address or any other information which could identify you to others. If you choose to share information in the comments box then you agree to share this and em4 will not be resonsible for your disclosure of information. You can delete your comments at any time.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. However, unless you are an author for a post on this site, you cannot upload and share any such data to our servers and thereon to anyone viewing the website.
Contact forms
Our contact form asks you for your name and email address, along with your message, which we store in the CMS on our secure servers. We do not share this information with anyone else. It can only be accessed by members of the em4 team.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to help understand which pages of our website are popular and to help improve the visitor experience by, for example, helping visitors to surface other less popular pages and to apply SEO. We do NOT share any of this data with anyone else.
Who we share your data with
We do not share any data collected with anyone other than members of the em4 team.
How long we retain your data
When enabled, and if you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely for the life of the post/article/page. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Data controller
The em4 data controller is Niall Blair, co-founder of em4. As a visitor to the site you are entitled to
– access, correct, delete and limit processing of personal data (GDPR)
